Dr. Young received his Bachelors of Science in Biology and Chemistry from Alabama State University and his Masters of Arts in Education and Counseling from California State University, Dominguez Hills. He earned his Doctorate of Ministry from Friends International Christian University in Merced, California, and his Doctorate of Philosophy in Religious Education from the Ministerial Training Institute--of which he is the founder and Chancellor. Dr. Young is a 2005 graduate of the California School Boards Association Masters in Governance program.

Dr. Young has been involved  with the education community of IUSD for over 35 years as a secondary science, math, and career education teacher, secondary counselor, secondary assistant principal, summer school principal, parent, volunteer, principal of  a community tutorial program, School Site Council President, and annual career day presenter throughout IUSD from 1987- present. He has held leadership positions for over 50 years! Dr. Young's parent/community forums and school visitations, which he started in 2003 during his second week as a Board Member, have been adopted by the Board of Education (now called “Board/Parent Community Forums and School Visitations”) as a way to better communicate with local school communities.
